RESEARCH EXPERIENCE · Herpetofaunal Survey and Collection Research for the Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center at U.T. Arlington. o Mexico (May–June 2007), collected in 9 states of southern and western Mexico in collaboration with herpetologists from UNAM. Partially funded (~$1,400) by UT Tyler. Approximately 700 specimens collected, ~500 of which were tissued. Supervisor: Eric N. Smith.
· Arizona Leopard Frog Research (Summer 2005), University of Arizona. o Supervisor: Dr. Philip C. Rosen. Monitored Chiricuahuan (Rana chiricuaensis) and Lowland Leopard Frog (Rana yavapaensis) population densities and environmental conditions in Southern Arizona. Research included seining, tadpole identification, bullfrog extirpation, aquatic insect collecting and identification, and experimenting with tadpole predation by belostomatids.
· Bolivian Herpetofaunal Survey and Collection Research (Dec. 2004–Jan. 2005). o Collected reptiles and amphibians in northwestern Bolivian montane rainforest for the Colecciόn Boliviana de Fauna, La Paz with Dr. Michael B. Harvey. Partially funded by NSU with $2,000 stipend and $400 vaccination and medication fees.
· Arkansas NSF-EPSCoR Research Internship Grant (Summer 2004), University of Arkansas. o Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus) and Copperhead (Agkistrodon contortrix) physiological ecology research project, $5,000 NSF plus ~$1,000 REU. Mentor: Dr. Steven J. Beaupré. Intensive radio telemetry, GPS and field data collection, specimen collection and preservation, proper handling of venomous snakes, ultrasound techniques on gravid female rattlesnakes, and many laboratory procedures.
· Warbler Research Project (2003), Little River National Wildlife Refuge, McCurtain Co., OK. o Assisted Dr. Mia Revels with mist netting, data collection, vegetation analysis, and locating and photographing nests on the Swainson’s Warbler.
· J.T. Nickel Nature Conservancy Preserve Herpetofaunal Survey (2001–2004), Cherokee Co., OK. o Surveyed a 15,000 acre preserve to measure species abundance and habitat preference of the local herpetofauna. Survey methods included line and strip transects, drift fences, placing tin and cover boards, and hand capture of specimens.
· Racer and Rat Snake Telemetry Project (2001), Sequoyah State Park, Cherokee Co., OK. o Assisted Dr. Vincent A. Cobb by checking drift fences, capturing and identifying reptiles and amphibians, and assisting with radio telemetry.
RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE · Assistant Reptile Manager (Winter 2001, Summer 2002), Wooten's Air Boat Tours, Ochopee, FL. o Responsibilities included care of over 150 crocodilians (6 species), numerous venomous and non-venomous snakes, lizards, and many freshwater turtles.
